Theatre Education Programme

The European Cultural Centre of Delphi launched a theatre education programme in 2018, addressed to young artists, actors and directors, as well as drama school students, with the goal of bringing the younger generation into contact with current theatre trends and the working methods of great teachers of world theatre.

Forty to fifty students participate in the programme each year.

2018, 5-7 July: THE RETURN OF DIONYSOS, Tribute to Theodoros Terzopoulos with the support of ONASSIS CULTURE

  • Symposium – Lectures
  • Photographic installation The Dismemberment of Dionysos by photographer Johanna Weber and visual artist and architect Alexandros Kokkinos
  • The method of Theodoros Terzopoulos, taught by Theodoros Terzopoulos and Savvas Stroumpos with the participation of collaborators of Terzopoulos from 10 countries.
  • Euripides’ Trojan Women, directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos with Despina Bebedeli. Special permission was granted for the tribute performance to be held at the Ancient Theatre of Delphi by the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phocis
  • Screenings of theatrical performances and documentaries

2019, 4-6 July: ODIN AND DIONYSOS: THE SPIRIT OF THE WORKSHOP, Tribute to Eugenio Barba

  • Symposium – Lectures
  • Video installation The Vision of Odin by Stefano di Buduo
  • Presentations of Eugenio Barba’s method by Eugenio Barba, Julia Varley and Roberta Carreri
  • Monologues – theatrical performances directed by Eugenio Barba: Judith with Roberta Carreri, Ave Maria with Julia Varley, and The Great Cities under the Moon

2020, 17-18 July: EXODUS: Art after the Pandemic

  • Lectures and discussion on the subject of “Art after the Pandemic” – webcast
  • Sophocles’ Antigone by Zero Point Theatre Company, directed by Savvas Stroumpos, Frynihos Theatre
  • EXODUS: Stage composition based on monologues from the tragedies Medea, Alcestis and Antigone, and the Pythian Oracles, with Sophia Hill. Supervised and directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos. Delphi Archaeological site – slope in front of the adyton of the Temple of Apollo, with the support of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phocis
