to

Co-organizations

Distinguished Greek and foreign scholars of Greco-Roman antiquity participated in the Delphi symposium entitled “The cities of Plutarch”.
Organization: Department of Philology of the University of Crete in collaboration with the European Cultural Centre of Delphi and the Secretary General of the International Society of Plutarchic Studies.
Plutarch’s work is a valuable source for the political and social organization of ancient cities, small and large, such as Athens, Sparta, Delphi, Chaironia, Thespia, and many others.
The symposium explored the complex questions of the reliability of the Plutarchic work as a historical source and of the relationship between Plutarchic depictions and the tradition of ancient political and philosophical contemplation.
The symposium was organized in honor of Professor Anastasios Nicolaides for his contribution to the teaching and research of Plutarch’s work.
