“The spring, once again, speaks…”

Honorary Mention by His Excellency the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos A. Tasoulas

It is with profound emotion and deep appreciation that we receive the gracious reference made by the President of the Republic during his inaugural address at the 10th Delphi Economic Forum, to the work of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi:

“In a certain sense, the events held within this inspired setting serve to fruitfully refute the final, heartrending oracle once delivered by the Delphic sanctuary to Julian the Apostate:
‘Inform the king… Phoebus no longer has a dwelling… nor a spring that speaks.’

There is no longer a spring that speaks.
This final pronouncement, after a millennium of prophetic tradition, has been described as the mournful toll that marked the end of an era.

Since 1977, however—upon a different, more rational foundation—the spring, the source of speech, has once again become articulate. This has been made possible through the activity of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi: a beacon of culture, a bridge between past and present, between Greece and the world.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to you, Mr. President, for this singular honor and esteemed recognition.
